At the age of four Cherry has not seen a very long life by Vegas nightclub standards (LA maybe...), but it's time has come.
"We have closed down Cherry Nightclub as the club reached the end of its life cycle," says Lori Nelson, director of corporate communications for Station Casinos, "and we are exploring new concepts for that space that will complement our other entertainment offerings that locals enjoy."
The Cherry staff was informed on Wednesday, January 6 of the decision, and that the club had actually partied its last on Saturday, January 2, the same night that Paris Las Vegas' Risqué did the same across town.
When Cherry first opened in April 2006 — then still under the control of Midnight Oil's Rande Gerber — the club aimed to entertain both locals and Strip tourists simultaneously. It quickly became clear that locals inevitably would become (and still are) Red Rock's bread and butter.
Red Rock assumed control of Cherry in early 2007 and brought on outside promoters and consultants such as Frankie Anobile of True Nightlife, who was contracted from April 2007 to April 2008 to create local nightlife events such as Red Rock Retreat and Mingle in the Red Rock lobby.

"I think that that place has potential," says Anobile of Cherry, "but the replacement has to be completely locally motivated — promotions, hours of operations, approach to service, approach to pricing. And that's the way we did it when [True Nightlife] was there."
Former True Nightlife/Red Rock Retreat VIP Operations Supervisor Natalia Badzjo says she would love to see a venue like Blue Martini move into the old Cherry digs.
"I think a spot like that would be a lot more appealing to a locals client base." Badzjo, currently VIP services manager for XS and Tryst, adds, "I loved my time at Red Rock, but I'm very happy to be back on the Strip."
As for what will replace Cherry and when, Nelson says, "We have not put a timeline on when a new concept will be unveiled, as we want to take our time to develop the right venue." It has also not yet been determined whether the Cherry pool deck will be in operation this summer for pool-party season.
Meanwhile, Red Rock is making ready for Vegas' second installment of Town Square's wildly popular Yard House brew pub in the former Salt Lick Barbecue location, as well as an outdoor patio. Red Rock's own Yard House is expected to open "sometime in May or June," says Nelson.
In addition, Stations Casinos is anticipating the arrival of Revolver Nightclub at Santa Fe Station — originally slated for Green Valley Ranch — which will soft-open over Super Bowl weekend with a Wednesday through Saturday schedule.
