A 47-year-old man hiding in a portable toilet was arrested Thursday night, accused in the death of a man found in a nearby apartment.

Metro Police responded at about 9 p.m. Thursday to the report of a disturbance at 150 E. Hoover Ave., which is northeast of the intersection of Main Street and Charleston Boulevard. Several people at the scene directed officers to an apartment, where a man was found dead from apparent blunt force trauma to the head, police said.

Officers canvassing the area found a man hiding in a portable toilet who was trying to change his clothes, police said.

The man, identified as Mark Hoffman, 47, was suffering from an apparent self-inflicted injury to the abdomen and was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, authorities said.

Hoffman was charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He remains hospitalized and has been booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center. Police today released a jail booking photo of Hoffman from 2007.

The name of the victim and cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Metro homicide section at 828-3521.
