Serving as corporate counsel for the world’s largest gaming operator is no small feat. But for Katie Fellows, it is now her calling.
After several years with Jones Vargas, where she practiced with the firm’s government affairs, real estate and business groups, Fellows recently took on oversight of operations-related legal matters at Harrah’s Paris Las Vegas, Bally’s, its Lake Tahoe namesake and Harvey’s properties, as well as the Planet Hollywood Resort-Casino.
The gaming giant is currently in the process of acquiring Planet Hollywood. Harrah’s now manages the hotel operations of Planet Hollywood and it has purchased some of the debt on which it has defaulted.
Besides familiarizing herself with the unique legal needs of each Harrah’s property, in 2010, the Minnesota native will also be busy guiding the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada; Fellows was recently elected to the local agency’s board.
“The Red Cross provides a lot of service to our community,” she said. “There are a lot of opportunities for volunteers and I’m really excited to be a part of that.”
Fellows is also involved with the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, Leadership Las Vegas and the Yale Club of Southern Nevada. She also coaches Southern Nevada youth softball teams.
