LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Sailor’s valor should be remembered

I’d like to make a belated Memorial Day remembrance for Navy Lt. (Ret.) John Finn, who died Thursday in California at 100 years old.

As chief aviation ordnanceman stationed at Kaneohe Bay Naval Air Station in Hawaii during the Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Finn manned a machine gun from an unprotected position and — despite being repeatedly wounded — continued to fire on the Japanese planes.

For his heroic actions on the Day of Infamy, he received the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest decoration.

Rest in peace, sailor, your voyage is over.
