LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Nation’s problems aren’t caused by higher taxes

Politicians are the only people in the world who create the problems and then campaign against them.

The USA remains the most lightly taxed nation in the developed world, with the lowest minimum salary and benefits compared to France, Germany, etc.

Unemployment is very high now because manufacturing moved overseas with tax benefits, and a majority of the members of Congress have demonstrated that they are anti-labor, anti-Social Security, anti-Medicare and anti-Medicaid. The U.S. national debt is now more than $13 trillion.

Lowering taxes is not the solution.

America has a dangerous case of anti-government, anti-regulations, anti-tax fever. For much of our history, the “fierce individualistic streak” in our culture was balanced many years ago by a commitment to share and sacrifice for the common good.

Taxation enabled President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to build the most powerful nation after the global economic depression of 1929, and the USA recovered faster by increasing taxes to wealthy Americans, who could share the sacrifice for the benefit of our country.

We don’t need lower taxes.
