A Las Vegas man who has been charged in the shotgun death of another man in May has had his preliminary hearing delayed until September.

John Stamm, 18, who is free on bail, has been charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon in connection with the death of his friend, Brandon Reyes. Stamm has told police the shooting was accidental.

Justice Nancy C. Oesterle continued the preliminary hearing until September because the coroner's report wasn't ready.

According to a police report, the incident occurred about 1 a.m. May 26 in a shed at Stamm's home at 300 View Drive.

Police said Stamm told them he and Reyes were smoking marijuana and "snorting some type of pill" in the shed, which contains two couches. Stamm took out the Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun from its hiding place and the two men were handling it.

Stamm who was sitting on one couch and facing Reyes on the other couch said he was "messing" with Reyes by pointing the gun in his direction. He told police he didn't intend to shoot Reyes and wasn't sure the shotgun was even loaded.

After the shooting, Stamm ran into the house and called 911, police said.
