Medical board reprimands 2 Nevada doctors

CARSON CITY – The state Board of Medical Examiners has issued a public reprimand to Las Vegas physician Dr. V. Grigoryev Grigg for failing to keep adequate records in the treatment of a female patient.

The board said Grigg, licensed in Nevada since 1994, violated the Medical Practice Act and he was ordered to complete 10 hours of training in medical record keeping.

The complaint against Grigg was filed in February and indicated that a female patient, whose identity wasn't revealed, was treated in April 2006. Grigg performed a surgery, followed by a second surgery, but he failed to record the patient had the second operation.

When the patient was discharged, Grigg wrote that she refused a blood transfusion prior to being released. But records of the nurses indicate she actually received two units of packed red blood cells before her discharge.

Grigg, in signing the consent settlement, also agreed to reimburse the board $1,491 for the cost of the investigation.

The board also issued a public reprimand to Dr. Laning Andrews of Reno for malpractice on a female patient. He was fined $1,000 and ordered to reimburse the board $4,046 for the cost of its investigation in a settlement agreement.

The complaint filed against Andrews involved treatment of a 45-year-old woman who showed up at the emergency room at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno complaining of the worst headache in her life.

Andrews, licensed in 1998, performed a lumbar or abdominal puncture and the patient was discharged. The complaint said that before the puncture, Andrews didn't consider the use by the patient of Lovenox for anticoagulation.

Andrews was accused of failing to investigate alternatives to the puncture procedure or taking any precautions because the patient was on Lovenox.

Both physicians agreed to the findings and penalties.
