Temperatures in 90s for weekend in Las Vegas

Southwesterly winds to be gusty today, forecasters say

Sunny skies, temperatures in the mid 90s and gusty winds are in store for Las Vegas today.

A broad trough of low pressure will be over the area through the upcoming weekend, allowing temperatures to remain near to slightly below normal, according to the National Weather Service.

The trough will bring increased afternoon southwest winds, expecially today and Saturday, the weather service said. Winds will gust up to 25 mph, with some local gusts between 35 and 40 mph, forecasters said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 75 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 73 degrees. The record low was 49 degrees, set in 1939.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 70 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 69 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 74 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 80 degrees by 9 a.m., to 88 degrees by noon and reach a high of 96 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 100 degrees and the record high was 115 degrees, set in 1940.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 95 degrees by 6 p.m., to 88 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 79 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 70 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 94 degrees, they said.
