LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Obama hasn’t helped; Bush was better

Regarding Steve Metz’s letter to the editor Wednesday, headlined “Nation better off with Obama at helm”:

The stock market can barely stay around 10,000. The unemployment rate was 7.6 percent when Barack Obama took office and now it is 9.7 percent, and Clark County is at 14.1 percent. Where are all those added jobs?

Several economists are predicting a double-dip recession in 2011, when all the stimulus money is gone and if Congress lets the Bush tax cuts expire Jan. 1. Obama has created the largest budget deficit in history. States and county governments are having to contend with huge budget deficits across the country. We still have record foreclosures.

The BP oil spill is President Obama’s Katrina, only worse, for he hasn’t done a thing but use the oil spill for his political agenda. He wants to shut down all offshore drilling and pass a “cap and trade” bill, which would cause thousands of lost jobs, $4 or $5 for a gallon of gas and cause all our utilities to jump sky high. That is all our economy needs right now!

Make no mistake, we can never go without oil. Planes can’t fly on electricity, trucks wouldn’t do much better and natural gas is too dangerous. Oil is a component of 80 percent of the things that we make and use every day. I would take back George W. Bush any day. At least I felt safe.
