Approximate area of shooting

A Metro Police officer fired a weapon at a suspect late Sunday after a fight with the man.

The officer's shot missed the man and no one was injured in the shooting or the fight.

Metro spokeswoman Officer Barbara Morgan said officers responded at about 11 p.m. to the area of Torrey Pines Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard after a call came in that a vehicle was in the area that had been reported stolen. She said a suspect armed with a gun ran when officers arrived.

Police chased the man before words were exchanged between the suspect and officer. Authorities say the officer then fired at the suspect, but missed.

A Taser was used on the man and he was detained after a brief struggle, Morgan said.

The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave during an investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shooting cases.
