LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Barton a victim of political correctness

In Sunday’s Las Vegas Sun, Washington Post columnist David Broder chastises Joe Barton, a Republican congressman from Texas, for saying the $20 billion that British Petroleum agreed to pay in a meeting with President Barack Obama was a “shakedown.”

Had a Republican president made such a deal, and had a Democratic congressman made the same comment, I suspect that Broder and some other Americans would be crying, “Hear, hear!”

They would go on to ask why the president becomes the controller of the $20 billion — as Obama has done (and don’t even try to defend Obama’s claim that the money will be handled impartially, when he puts one of his “czars” in charge of it).

What we have here is political correctness at its worst. No one is allowed to tell the truth. No one is allowed to ask a question that might embarrass the protected class. Speak the truth and you will be attacked. Is this the America we want to live in?
