Hot, sunny weekend ahead for Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb into the triple digits through Sunday

Get your sunglasses and suncreen ready -- Las Vegas will have mostly clear skies and afternoon highs in the low 100s through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

After hitting a high of 106 on Thursday, temperatures will fall back closer to normal today and Saturday before warming a little higher on Sunday, the weather service said.

South to southwest winds, with gusts as high as 25 mph, can be expected both this afternoon and overnight, forecasters said.

A weak low pressure system will move across the region, bringing scattered thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada this afternoon, forecasters said. As the low shifts east, there will be a slight chance of thunderstorms in east-central Nevada over higher terrain of the southern Great Basin Saturday afternoon, forecasters said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 80 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 75 degrees. The record low was 55 degrees, set in 1941.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 74 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 76 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 78 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 90 degrees by 9 a.m., to 99 degrees by noon and reach a high of 103 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 102 degrees and the record high was 115 degrees, set in 1970.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 102 degrees by 6 p.m., to 95 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 89 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 81 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 100 degrees, they said.
