LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Republicans put Iraq ahead of the American worker

For the past several months the Senate GOP party of no has smacked down the bill that would provide badly needed assistance to the unemployed along with federal assistance to states. This is a very, very stupid political ploy. It almost rivals their nomination of Sharron Angle and the recent Joe Barton blunder of an apology to BP for what he considered a government shakedown.

These politicians are screaming about budget deficits, but the hardworking, blue-collar folks can see through this ploy. American job preservation and unemployment assistance dollars are peanuts compared with trying to fix what they broke in Iraq. It appears they have more concern for Iraq than they do for the American worker.

My votes were always Republican until I realized that Bill Clinton was on my side of the fence and that he should be voted in for a second term. It took me a very long time to wake up.

The senators controlled by high-dollar big business contributors seem to worry only about their contributions for re-election. They blatantly disregard environmental regulations and golden parachute bonuses. I do not believe the majority of American voters and those suffering in the Gulf Coast will give a darn about them come voting time.

I can only hope that these anti-blue-collar politicians keep up their good work. It will crush any chance of their political victory in November.
