LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

We can afford to fund war but not help our own?

It’s sad to know we can appropriate $33 billion to fund a war — not to mention the perky subsidy Afghanistan receives just to be our “friend” (welfare if you please), plus what billions are being appropriated for Iraq — and not one Republican voted in favor of allowing extension of benefits to help pass the jobs bill.

They executed a filibuster, and 60 votes could not be obtained to break it. This bill would allow an extension of unemployment benefits for millions having been hit hard by job loss.

We are not talking about job slackers — we’re concerned about hardworking people with families and debts in the wake of an economic meltdown by Wall Street.

When our legislators can worry more about the comforts of foreign citizens in foreign lands instead of offering aid to our own, and giving huge tax breaks to our biggest money hawks, then our politicians have a sick problem.

It is a very sad time.
