LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

What’s the fuss about Arizona’s immigration law?

I cannot understand the hullabaloo about showing identification in Arizona when necessary. If I am stopped by an officer and cannot produce ID, some explanation will be necessary.

When I was a young man, I married a foreign national in her country. The nuptials were registered with the U.S. Consul. We set up housekeeping in San Diego and after her first few weeks in the United States, we visited Tijuana.

When we came back across the border, a U.S. immigration officer asked for ID. I showed mine and she produced her green card. The officer waved us through.

Neither of us felt discomfort. Actually, she was proud to show the ID that put her on the road to U.S. citizenship.
