LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

GOP concerned about deficit only when convenient

It looks as if the deficit-happy Republicans are at it again. They voted down the unemployment extension bill due to a sudden pang of conscience that the bill was unfunded.

Where were their consciences as they voted for untold billions to fund the two unnecessary wars that we’ve been bogged down in since 2001 and 2003?

On another note, about 80,000 construction jobs have been lost in Clark County since 2006 or so. A conservative pay rate of $25 per hour for each job lost translates into an annual loss of more than $4 billion. That’s a lot of dollars that are not flowing into the economy — a lot of income taxes lost, a lot of houses lost due to foreclosure (according to the preliminary census numbers, there are 70,000 vacant houses in Nevada).

But according to the Republicans, they’ve done the unemployed a favor because now it will force them off the dole and make them get jobs — the same jobs the Republicans are proudly proclaiming don’t exist because of President Barack Obama’s failed economy.

Exactly which America is the GOP representing? The “Spill, Baby, Spill” crowd, perhaps?
