Coroner identifies man struck Saturday crossing Fremont Street

Fatal accident

A 77-year-old man struck by a truck while crossing East Fremont Street outside of a marked crosswalk Friday has been identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Lloyd Davis of Las Vegas.

The incident happened about 8:10 p.m. Friday between East Oakey Boulevard and Atlantic Street, police said.

Metro Police said the pedestrian was crossing Fremont east to west, just south of the entrance to a Lowe’s Home Improvement store, when he was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado headed south on Fremont through a green light, police said.

The coroner's office said Davis died of multiple injuries from a vehicle striking a pedestrian and was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has been ruled accidental.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, identified as 38-year-old Eduardo Mendez, was arrested Saturday on a charge of DUI, police said.
