UPDATED STORY: Report: Teacher, student sexual encounters occurred at school

Clark County School District Police arrested a theater teacher at Las Vegas High School Wednesday night on charges of sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old student.

School District Lt. Ken Young said Jennifer Gardel, 30, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center about 6 p.m. Wednesday after detectives conducted interviews with her and a teen boy. Police say they were allegedly involved in a sexual relationship.

Gardel faces six felony counts of sexual misconduct, Young said.

He said the relationship had been ongoing since January. Gardel also taught Spanish classes.

The investigation was conducted after someone reported the sexual relationship to detectives Wednesday, police said.

Gardel will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Young said. She has been teaching in the Clark County School District since Aug. 15, 2007. Gardel posted $18,000 bail.
