Virgin Valley raced out to a 41-7 first-half lead against visiting Coronado and cruised in for an easy 47-21 victory.

The Bulldogs forced eight turnovers to improve their record to 7-1.

“As a defense, we played great,” assistant coach Nick Hansen said.

Kyler Hughes returned an interception for a touchdown and caught another one on offense. Humberto Urias threw four touchdowns.

The defeat dropped Coronado’s record to 2-6. Virgin Valley hosts rival Moapa Valley next week to determine home-field advantage for the 3A state playoffs, where the two teams will meet each other for the second week in a row.

“We’re really excited,” Hansen said. “Their crowd gets real fired up and it’s always a great game. We’ve done some good stuff this season, so we’re looking forward to it.”
