Nightlife news & notes: Mushrooms, Mix, Guy Fawkes and Tiesto sightings

Mark Farina

DJ/producer Mark Farina

Headliners aren’t only for Halloween. On November 3, when clubgoers (we hope) have their normal-ish attire back on, house DJ/producer Mark Farina celebrates the release of his latest album, Mushroom Jazz 7, with a special set at Eve. “The last couple of gigs have been more on the house-y side in Vegas,” Farina tells the Weekly. Check out the full interview plus a free podcast with Farina here. (Doors open at 10:30 p.m., $20 and up, locals free.)

“Nants ingonyamaaaa bagithi Babaaaa.” Okay, that makes more sense when you hear the opening chant from The Lion King’s “Circle of Life.” In honor of the musical’s new Friday night show at Mandalay Bay, ticket-holders can now head up to Mix Lounge atop THEhotel at Mandalay Bay and receive complimentary admission and a free cocktail when they present their stub on the same evening (Fridays and Saturday nights). While you’re up there, check out the view from what Weekly named one of the Best Nightlife Bathrooms.

Remember, remember the fifth of November. Especially if you have a Guy Fawkes mask left over from Halloween. The Queen Victoria Pub celebrates the 1605 capture of Guy Fawkes and his failed plot to destroy the British House of Parliament. What does that mean to us? Yet another excuse to party. The new pub inside the Riviera will honor the tradition of British Bonfire Night by lighting (controlled) bonfires in the Riviera’s parking lot. Plus, a fireworks display, snacks, apple dunking and a “Penney for the Guy” costume contest. The party begins at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 9; $10 at the door or free if you RSVP to [email protected].

When we said DJ/producer Tiësto would call Vegas his new home when he launches his 2011 residency at the Joint, we didn’t expect to see so much of him already. The top-ranking DJ has been showing up left and right around town. On Friday he stopped by Surrender and kicked it with Steve Aoki in the booth while sipping vodka-Red Bulls. He returned to Surrender Saturday night and lounged in a VIP bungalow, subbing Red Bull for cranberry with his vodka and then again Wednesday. But his fondness for the Encore nightclub doesn’t mean he’s jumping ship to Surrender before his gigs begin; Tiësto is confirmed through December 2011 at the Hard Rock Hotel, though insiders say tickets for all dates are already selling quickly.
