Gorman in national spotlight

The Bishop Gorman High football team will be in the national spotlight Saturday when they travel to Northern California to face nationally respected De La Salle. The game will be televised by CBS College Sports, giving the Gaels a chance to make a splash — for themselves and the Las Vegas area.

Parker Riggin passed for 165 yards and three touchdowns Friday to lead the host Foothill High football team to a 56-0 victory against 3A classification Boulder City High.

The Falcons (5-0) are one of three 4A classification teams in Southern Nevada with an undefeated record. They have outscored opponents 221-46 and have only given up 12 points combined in the last three games.

“There is a lot of good things we have done so far both offensively and defensively,” Foothill coach Marty Redmond said. “We know there are tougher games ahead of us. We are going to play some real physical teams the next few weeks.”

Foothill's schedule will get tougher in October with games against Del Sol, Silverado, Basic and Liberty.

Connor Afoa had six carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns, while Shane Mazner and Brandon Wiltz each added rushing touchdowns.

Receiver Darius Gates had four catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns, and linebacker Keegan Buck returned a fumble for a defensive touchdown.
