Metro Police said a man was shot in the eastern valley this morning during a possible robbery attempt.

Metro spokesman Bill Cassell said police received a call at 9:09 a.m. about gunfire in the 5200 block of East Charleston Boulevard, which is just east of Nellis Boulevard.

Officers arrived and found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Cassell said. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, he said.

Witnesses originally told police they thought a neighbor had shot the man, but investigators determined that wasn't true, Cassell said.

At this point, investigators believe robbery was a possible motive for the shooting.

Police initially detained one person, but that person was later released, Cassell said. Now, police are trying determine whether one or two suspects were involved.
