North Las Vegas Airport open house to focus on community, safety

The Clark County Department of Aviation is hosting a community open house at North Las Vegas Airport on Saturday to showcase recent safety enhancements and inspire youth to take to the skies.

Residents are invited to the airport’s Southwest Platinum Hangar located at 2810 Perimeter Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the fourth annual open house event.

Several aviation organizations and airport tenants, including the Federal Aviation Administration, Civil Air Patrol and the Clark County Aviation Association, will be on hand to share the latest industry news, answer questions and provide young aviation enthusiasts a glimpse into the aviation industry.

The event will feature a static display of 30 aircraft ranging from a 1920’s Lincoln biplane to a modern Cirrus aircraft. The family-friendly event will offer food and beverage concessions, face painting and gift bags for children. Admission to the event is free.

The event will also serve to inform the public on airport improvements, including the removal of high-tension power lines adjacent to the facility, rehabilitation to aircraft operating surfaces, installation of new airfield markings and signage, and improvements to drainage systems.

“The Department of Aviation has worked diligently to improve conditions at North Las Vegas Airport, both on its own and in partnership with other interested stakeholders,” Clark County Aviation Director Randall Walker said in a statement. “These recent safety improvements underscore the county’s willingness to work with other government agencies, as well as the private sector, to ensure maximum safety for aircraft operators and nearby residents.”

Last year’s open house attracted more than 1,000 area residents to the North Las Vegas Airport, which is the second-busiest airport in Nevada.
