LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Trump’s qualities make him an ideal candidate

Eugene Robinson made an interesting, conventional argument about Donald Trump’s viability in his column in Friday’s Las Vegas Sun, “Trumped by political failure.” In light of what’s happening in Washington, let’s envision what it would be like having him as president.

For Trump, being associated with special-interest groups would be the ultimate humiliation. Trump’s “art of the deal” has nothing to do with being known for shoveling many people under for the benefit of the few. Party platform? Trump has his own platform and I bet it has nothing to do with being recognized for taking money and protections away from the voters.

He would initially be isolated but would then begin to build a posse from both parties — albeit a third party — with the promise that they would have true power to govern. The Trumparians would be able to operate above the constraints of special-interest groups. Who in Washington would not aspire to that?

Trump is the ideal candidate — but not because he is such a great guy. Trump has three major attributes. First, it is the way he is wired. In any engagement or dealing, he will most assuredly get what will make him look best. As president, this would involve a special-interest smackdown and returning the country to voters.

The second attribute is that no one is going to be known for pushing him around. God only knows what his limits are for preventing this.

The third attribute is that he is filthy rich. He is accomplished. Everything he does is purely for self-realization. It’s all that is left for him on this planet. By itself, this makes him ideal.

Everyone in Washington should be shaking in their boots at this prospect. As for me, I have started to pray for his success. Come on, say it with me: Trump for president!
