LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

At least we don’t have those pesky taxes to fret about

I am a Nevadan and a public school teacher who appreciates Gov. Brian Sandoval and his no-new-taxes pledge.

Thanks to him, billions in profits for Canadian mining firms will eventually trickle down to Nevadans. Thanks to Sandoval, state accountants are getting paid overtime trying to figure out which accounting trick he will use next to “balance” the budget.

Thanks to the governor, out-of-state businesses will flock here since our low tax structure has been attracting businesses for years now.

Thanks to Sandoval, Nevada will be last in per-pupil spending. I knew we could beat Mississippi once we got rid of that liberal governor, Jim Gibbons.

And, thanks to the governor, 1,800 teachers will be laid off in Clark County and classes will grow to more than 35 students per teacher in fifth grade while high school classes will swell to over 45.

Sandoval and I agree that salary reductions and increased class sizes are the best way to retain dedicated teachers and increase our graduation rates.

Meanwhile, thanks to the governor and his no-new-taxes pledge, Nevada will continue to have the some of the highest levels of unemployment, foreclosure and dropout rates in the country; but at least we won’t have new taxes.
