LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Tax cuts should be reserved for those who create jobs

First it was President George W. Bush, saying we need to cut tax rates to stimulate job growth. Then it’s Republicans in the lame-duck session of Congress claiming the same, as they advocated for continuance, to which the White House and the Democrats in Congress acquiesced.

Now it’s Congressman Paul Ryan’s plan, in which he advocates reducing the highest tax bracket to create new jobs. Am I the only one wondering where all these jobs are?

We hear the same thing in Nevada. Two consecutive governors have said we need to keep taxes low so the businesses will come here. So where are all these businesses that were supposed to be rushing to the state with the most enviable business-friendly tax structure in the nation?

I say don’t cut taxes, with fingers crossed, hoping that jobs will be created. Instead, give credit where credit is due — tax credits for those who actually create jobs.

If we raise taxes, where will the mining and casino industries run — to states where the taxes are even higher? I say let’s call their bluff. What do we have to lose? Only an already bankrupt state!
