Man evicted from apartment arrested after police find explosive device

North Las Vegas Police arrested a man today after authorities confiscated an explosive device from the apartment where he recently had been evicted.

Richard Mitchell, 27, was taken into custody and booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center on charges of one felony count of possession of an explosive device and one felony count of possession of prescription drugs without a prescription.

Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said the armor unit responded at 10 a.m. to the 300 block of Casa Norte Drive to investigate reports of a suspicious device. That location is near Commerce Street and Washburn Road.

Apartment personnel were cleaning the apartment unit when they discovered the device, Coon said. The armor unit later determined it was an explosive.

Authorities arrested Mitchell recently had been evicted from the apartment, Coon said.

Residents who were evacuated during the investigation were allowed to return after 1 p.m.
