Easter weekend bringing highs around 80 to Las Vegas Valley

Chance for thunderstorms in southern Great Basin, say forecasters

Partly sunny skies and warm afternoons hopping up to around 80 degrees are in Las Vegas Valley's Easter weekend forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

However, a couple of disturbances will pass through the Great Basin over the weekend, bringing a slight chance of thunderstorms to the southern Great Basin and strong winds to the western Mohave Desert, forecasters said.

Dry weather is expected Monday through Friday, with continued gusty winds across the Mojave Desert and temperatures climbing a few degrees above normal into the mid 80s, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 60 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 56 degrees. The record low was 36 degrees, set in 1937.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 59 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 60 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 58 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 68 degrees by 9 a.m., to 75 degrees by noon and reach a high of 80 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 80 degrees and the record high was 98 degrees, set in 1949.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 80 degrees by 6 p.m., to 73 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 68 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Sunday's morning low will be 61 degrees and Sunday's high will climb to 82 degrees, they said.
