LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Health care in form of vouchers unfair to seniors

Have any of the GOP House members given thought to the bill they passed this month that would provide vouchers to seniors in lieu of Medicare starting in 2022.

Let us assume that 50 percent of these seniors will have above-average health problems, 25 percent have normal to average problems and that 25 percent are fairly healthy.

Along with that, we should consider the seniors who will be 75 and over when this voucher takes effect. Is it possible they need the most care? Will they be able to afford the care they are now receiving with the voucher dollars? Knowing how private insurance companies control their profit margins, I don’t think so.

How many of the younger seniors will make constant visits to emergency rooms rather than their doctor in fear of using up their voucher dollars? My thought is many will, and if you think the ERs are crowded now, give the voucher system time.

Medicare does have some waste, but it also has a lot of savings. Consider all of the fairly healthy seniors who are on this plan but use up very few of its dollars. Do you think the private insurances companies will provide better care for the sickly or pocket this money?

You younger folks better take a look at what may happen to your savings plan if a parent needs special care not covered with voucher bucks.

The GOP should wise up and stop using this idiotic ploy. It’s very unpopular.
