LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Nevada better off without Ensign’s arrogance

Many Nevadans wanted Sen. John Ensign to resign in the summer of 2009 because we knew nothing good would come out of his drama. And here we are today cleaning up the final pieces of the political, social and economic carnage wrought by the silver-haired narcissist.

Those who are familiar with Greek tragedy know that hubris is defined as an extreme arrogance, usually brought on by one’s denial of facts or reality, and expressed by overestimating one’s abilities. Hubris was most evident in the private and public actions of the rich and powerful. Ensign is hubris on steroids.

His resignation is neither for family nor Nevada — it is to protect his delusional self-image. Sen. Ensign can’t see his own reflection in the mirror because pride blinds.

The senator’s actions have shamed Nevada. His fall is complete.
