Smith Center announces Broadway Las Vegas lineup—and it’s awesome

Smith Center

A rendering of The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, scheduled to open its doors in Spring 2012.

The lineup for the Smith Center for the Performing Arts’ Broadway Las Vegas, has got to literally be a dream come true for its president and CEO Myron Martin who, for years, has been touting endlessly the excitement and enrichment of touring musicals stopping in Las Vegas.

Locals can appreciate the reality as well – no more driving to the Strip and traipsing the family through smoky casinos for a taste of the Great White Way.

The launch of Broadway Las Vegas marks the first full-length season of the Smith Center, slated to open in March, and will likely bring forth the collective humming of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” throughout the valley.

So what can you see? The Color Purple, based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (April. 3-8); Mary Poppins (May 22-27); the Tony Award-winning rock ‘n roll based Million Dollar Quartet (June 12-June 17); Tony Award-winning Memphis, another ‘50s-era rock ‘n roll-themed musical (June 12-17) and the wildly popular, Tony Award-winning Wicked, a funny look at Oz’s notable witches (Aug. 29-Oct. 7). Tickets for the shows, beginning at $24, go on sale this summer.

Time to bust out the show tunes.
