KSNV coverage of deadly crash at intersection of West Charleston and South Jones boulevards, Aug. 4, 2011.

An 82-year-old Las Vegas man was killed and two other people were injured after a collision at the intersection of West Charleston and South Jones boulevards.

The crash occurred just before noon Thursday. One driver was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence.

Metro Police say a 1995 GMC Suburban was traveling east on West Charleston Boulevard approaching South Jones Boulevard when a 2001 Lincoln Town Car was making a left turn from westbound Charleston Boulevard to southbound Jones Boulevard. The GMC entered the intersection on a red traffic signal and collided with the right side of the Lincoln.

The driver of the Lincoln was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries while the driver of the GMC was transported with minor injuries.

The passenger of the Lincoln was pronounced dead at the scene.

After transportation to UMC, the driver of the GMC, 29-year-old Jose Gomez, was arrested in connection with driving under the influence of drugs involving a death, red light violation and having no driver’s license.

Gomez was booked without bail into the Clark County Detention Center. His hearing is scheduled for this week.

This is the 39th traffic related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction so far this year.
