Metro Police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old girl early Saturday morning as a possible homicide.

The child was taken to UMC shortly before midnight Friday with "extensive injuries," according to police. The child later died from the injuries, and detectives from the abuse and neglect section and the homicide section were called to investigate.

The child had been in the custody of a caregiver and was taken to the hospital from the caregiver's house, police said. However, several people were at the house during the evening, so police are investigating who was responsible for the child's injuries.

The child's name and cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office pending an autopsy and notification of family.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Metro's homicide section at (702) 828-3521 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or visit crimestoppersofnv.com.
