Artist Erin Stellmon wasn’t so much predicting the future of CityCenter as she was telling Las Vegas’ story when she depicted shards of glass flying off of the Harmon in last summer’s solo exhibit, Reign of Glass. The installation merely suggested the likely someday implosion of this nearly $9 billion pop-up city. That the project was still under construction during the exhibit made it a little jarring. An exploding Harmon, even if implied, was, well, too soon. Or so we thought. News last week that MGM Resorts International wants to implode the building that never even opened, citing structural errors, is so very Reign of Glass.
