Harmon east of Strip to close tonight for construction on pedestrian bridge

New bridge

Work on a new pedestrian bridge on the Strip will close Harmon Avenue tonight, county officials said.

About 300 feet of Harmon east of Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m. Thursday.

The closure will allow crews to do welding work and pour concrete for the new bridge, which crosses Harmon Avenue on the east side of Las Vegas Boulevard.

The bridge will be the third at the intersection; the other two were built as part of CityCenter. The new bridge is being built as part of a new development on the northeastern corner of the intersection.

A three-story retail center south of Planet Hollywood will be connected to an existing bridge over Las Vegas Boulevard that leads to CityCenter and the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The new bridge will connect to the second floor of the new building and span Harmon Avenue.

The bridge is being built at no cost to the county as part of the development of 2.15 acres that once was owned by the county, but is now expected to house a Walgreens and other businesses.

The complex, and the new bridge, are expected to open in December.
