Wranglers forward Scott Campbell slammed in a rebound goal with 15.2 seconds left in regulation to give Las Vegas a 4-3 victory over Bakersfield and its fifth consecutive home win in the last two weeks.
Campbell’s game-winning goal was aided by assists from Adam Miller and Ryan Weston, which were the second assists of the night for both players.
“It was a great transition,” Miller said. “I got the puck in the middle and passed it over to Westy. Westy made a great pass off the goalie’s pad and Soupy (Campbell) made a great effort to put it in.”
The Wranglers (15-7-1-3) tied the game at three goals apiece with a Barry Goers slap shot from the high post at the 9:19 mark of the third period for his first goal of the season.
Bakersfield took the lead less than two minutes into the third period as Condor center Robby Dee completed a hat trick with assists coming from Tyler Helfrich and Peter Boyd. Helfrich fired a shot on net and Dee cleaned up the rebound for his 11th goal of the year.
After Dee scored two consecutive goals to give the Condors a 2-1 lead, Campbell tied the game with a goal from just outside the crease in the second period in which he received a quality centering pass from Miller.
Las Vegas center Ash Goldie continued his scoring surge as he opened the game with a goal at the 2:45 mark of the first period to give the Wranglers an early advantage.
Stars of the game: 1. Scott Campbell (2 goals); 2. Adam Miller (2 assists); 3. Robby Dee (3 goals).
Blackwater adds two more assists: Wranglers forward Judd Blackwater picked up assists on Goldie’s opening goal and Goers’ game-tying goal to remain in third place on the ECHL scoring chart with 31 points on the year.
Lampe moves to AHL: Las Vegas forward Eric Lampe, who has scored an ECHL leading 20 goals in 24 games this season, was picked up by the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters.
Next up: The Wranglers return to action Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. as they host the Condors in a Pacific Division battle for the second consecutive night.
Final word: “Offensively I thought we were good,” said Wranglers head coach Ryan Mougenel, who saw his squad put up 30 shots. “But we let teams in it sometimes and that’s disappointing. We need to start going for jugulars right away. Have that foot on the gas mentality.”
