Opponents of Las Vegas Councilman Steve Ross have collected enough signatures to qualify a recall election, Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller announced Wednesday.

Miller’s office certified a sampling of results from Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax.

The Committee to Recall Steve Ross submitted 1,189 signatures on Monday. Lomax verified 1,150 signatures as valid after examining a random sample of 500 signatures. The recall needed 1,084 signatures to qualify.

The recall is led by Joe Scala, a car dealer who was denied a waiver to continue operating a dealership in Ross’ ward.

Pursuant to state law, Miller provided written notification to the Clark County registrar of voters, the Las Vegas city clerk, the petitioners and Ross.

Barring any legal challenges, the Las Vegas city clerk will issue a call for a special election 10 to 20 days from the date of the secretary of state’s notice of the filed petition.

Pursuant to the Nevada Constitution, the special election must be held within 30 days of the issuance of the call.
