Las Vegas forward Eric Lampe scored two goals in the first period to help the Wranglers defeat Pacific Division rival Ontario 5-0 on Monday at the Orleans Arena.
Lampe, who leads the ECHL with 23 goals, was assisted by Judd Blackwater and Josh Lunden on each of his goals.
“It was a good start for us,” Lampe said. “Blackwater and I kept it going where we left off. Hopefully we can keep going with it.
“We just read each other and try to find the open ice,” Lampe said. “He has a lot of skill. He sees the ice well. I just try to get to an open area and he finds me. It’s going in for me.”
Wranglers (17-9-1-3) defenseman Barry Goers scored his second goal of the season at the 4:41 mark of the second period to extend the lead to 3-0. Goers was assisted by Lampe, who picked up his 35th point of the season on the goal.
Las Vegas center Ash Goldie scored an assisted goal from Michael Busto and Goers just over two minutes later to push the advantage to 4-0.
Forward Ned Lukacevic capped the scoring with a power-play goal at the 11:01 mark of the second period. Lukacevic received a centering pass from Blackwater near the crease and put the puck by Reign goaltender Jean-Francois Berube for his second goal of the year.
Wranglers goalie Joe Fallon stopped all 15 shots he faced as he helped Las Vegas end it two-game losing streak in front of 4,321 fans.
Stars of the game: 1. Eric Lampe (2 goals, 1 assist); 2. Barry Goers (1 goal, 2 assists); 3. Joe Fallon (15 saves).
Top scorers: Blackwater and Lampe each notched three points Monday night. Blackwater currently resides at third in the ECHL in scoring with 36 points and Lampe is fourth with 35 points.
“Black out”: Wranglers fans are encouraged to wear black to the team’s ninth annual Midnight Game against Stockon Tuesday night to “black out” the Orleans Arena.
Next up: The Wranglers return to action Tuesday night as they face Pacific Division foe Stockton with the puck scheduled to drop at 11:59 p.m. Monkeys riding dogs will take place during one of the intermissions to add to the late-night entertainment.
Final word: “I thought we played real well,” Wranglers head coach Ryan Mougenel said. “We rectified some things. We haven’t played the best the last two weeks, but we were real good in our own end. Lampe and Judd are really complementing each other.”
