Playoff bracket breakdown

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer discuss their way through the Sunrise and Sunset playoff brackets. They disagree on the early rounds, but come to a consensus on who will advance to the state championship.

There were no upsets Tuesday in the first night of the high school basketball playoffs.

All of the higher-seeded teams were victorious in both the Sunrise and Sunset regions, claiming victories on their home courts to advance to Thursday’s semifinal round.

There was no surprise for the top performance of the night: two-time defending state champion Bishop Gorman scored more than 100 points in blowing out Legacy.

The best game occurred in the Sunrise Region where Foothill hung on for a close victory against Valley. Foothill trailed by 18 points in the third quarter and by 11 to start the fourth quarter before rallying.

Other games were close, too. Coronado erased a double-digit deficit to beat Las Vegas, while Palo Verde and Durango went back and forth in the fourth quarter before Palo Verde prevailed.

Case Keefer and Ray Brewer will have short recaps from all eight games. Click on the headline for the story about your neighborhood team for all of the details.
