The dog park under construction in Boulder City is nearing its completion, and organizers are asking for volunteers to help plant the park's last trees on Saturday.

The effort will start at 8:30 a.m., said Gary Berger, one of the board members for the See Spot Run organization, which has spearheaded the effort to raise money for the still unnamed park.

About 75 of the 100 trees donated by Nevada's Department of Forestry have already been planted, Berger said, and placing the last 25 should be one of the final steps before the park's premiere.

Fencing has already been installed. The park is waiting for gates to be delivered and final inspections by Boulder City before opening, Berger said, and the group is "shooting for April."

"We're getting very close," he said.

Most of the trees -- mesquites, ashes and oaks -- are native to Nevada, Berger said.

The park is located on 3.5 acres in Veterans Memorial Park. Its organizers have been raising money since 2004 to open a dog park, and the city gave its blessing by offering a $1 lease for the land.
