A 13-year-old boy on a dirt bike was killed Thursday in a crash near West Simkins and Woodchips roads in Pahrump.

Nye County sheriff’s deputies responded about 5:15 a.m. to find a Dodge pickup truck and a dirt bike had collided. Officials said the boy was severely injured in the crash and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated the dirt bike was northbound on Woodchips Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Simkins Road. The front of the dirt bike struck the right side of the 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck that was eastbound in the intersection.

The boy's name wasn't released on Thursday. The two occupants of the pickup truck weren't injured.

Investigators said the boy appeared to be at fault in the collision. The Nevada Highway Patrol was called to the scene to join Nye County officials in the investigation.
