Accident

Metro Police shut down a portion of Sahara Avenue in the eastern valley while they investigated a rollover accident that ejected one person.

The accident happened about 2 p.m. in the 5100 block of Sahara Avenue, near Winterwood Golf Course.

Police said a 1999 Ford Explorer was headed east on Sahara, attempting to turn left into an apartment complex, when it turned in front of a 2004 Buick Century that was headed west on Sahara. The vehicles collided and the Explorer rolled over, ejecting a single passenger, police said.

A passenger in the Explorer, Shanique Palmer, 35, of Las Vegas suffered serious injuries. The driver, Tracey Brooks, 54, of Las Vegas and a 15-year-old girl suffered minor injuries, police said. All were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle, Angela Miles, 36, of Las Vegas suffered minor injuries.

Metro's fatal unit responded to the crash to investigate, which is standard procedure for accidents involving critical injuries.

The westbound lanes of Sahara Avenue were closed from Caravelle Street to Winterwood Boulevard. Police asked drivers to avoid the area while they cleared the scene.
