Trash gets a second life with ‘ArtCycle’ at Emergency Arts

ArtCycle by Jeff McIntosh

Whatever works: McIntosh makes use of, well, anything.

When I think of March, images of plants springing into season and leprechauns holding four-leaf clovers come to mind. Well, the Collective at Carvalho Creative is focusing on a different kind of green this month, with its spring exhibition: ArtCycle by Jeff McIntosh. The mixed-media artist’s work includes airbrush, acrylic and oil on an array of recycled medias. Although using trash for art reduces the amount on the street, McIntosh says his motivation to use such materials really came from necessity. “I’m not trying to save the world. It’s just nice to utilize what’s around.”

McIntosh says he enjoys the freedom—and challenge—that comes from using whatever recycled material is available. “There’s art in everything. As long as you’re looking for it, you can find it,” he explains. See, one man’s trash really can be another man’s treasure.
