LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Clean water fee should go back to ratepayers

Thanks to Joe Schoenmann’s informative Wednesday article — “Pipeline plan died, so where do the fees go?” — regarding how some in Clark County want to return $2.7 million to taxpayers.

Since the Clean Water Coalition has been closed, why are cities still collecting fees? We have those who can’t wait to get their hands on the money collected. The article states that one councilman said, “One idea is to call that fee something else and keep collecting it.”

It seems to me something like that would be illegal. My hat’s off to those who want some of the money returned to the county’s ratepayers. It shouldn’t be an option because that money really belongs to the ratepayers who have been paying these fees for years.
