A man who died Tuesday morning after crashing a sport utility vehicle into a concrete block wall and colliding with a bicyclist in the northwest valley has been identified as 27-year-old Yunfei Xin, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The coroner hasn't determined Xin's official cause and manner of death. Police indicated he was from China, but the coroner said he had been living in Las Vegas.

At 4:44 a.m. Tuesday, Xin was driving an SUV north on Cimarron Road and struck the east curb near Sapphire Beach Lane, police said. The vehicle went back into the travel lanes and struck the west curb at Soaring Gulls Drive, then drove up onto the sidewalk, police said.

The vehicle then struck the block wall and a street light pole, investigators said. The vehicle re-entered the roadway and collided with a bicyclist, who was traveling south on Cimarron Road. Ilene Sorenson, 53, was thrown from the bike and into the windshield of the SUV, police said.

Sorenson, of Las Vegas, was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.

Xin was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

This is the 12th fatal traffic collision in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. The accident remains under investigation.
