Bill would permit Laughlin to become an incorporated city

CARSON CITY – A bill to permit Laughlin to become an incorporated city has been introduced by Sen. Joe Hardy, R-Boulder City.

Voters in Laughlin would decide whether to become a city with a mayor and four council members. If the charter is approved, the four council members would receive $125 a month for the first two years after the initial election. The mayor would get $150 a month.

Senate Bill 262 would authorize Clark County to accept grants to pay for expenses associated with incorporation, such as a feasibility study on Laughlin becoming a city and also for the costs of any election.

The census puts the population at 7,076. If approved, Laughlin would be incorporated on July 1, 2013.

The bill was referred to the Senate Government Affairs.
