Sunny skies expected today ahead of rain chances, cooler weather

The Las Vegas Valley will see a glimpse of warmer weather today before temperatures dip again toward the end of the week.

Today's mostly sunny weather will bring highs near 66 degrees and winds between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Clouds and precipitation, however, could return tonight. There's a 40 percent chance of rain overnight as lows dip to 45 degrees, forecasters said. Overnight winds will be between 17 to 22 mph, with gusts reaching as high as 33 mph, forecasters said.

On Thursday, it's back to wearing sweatshirts and jackets. Highs will top out around 62 degrees despite mostly sunny skies. Forecasters said to expect breezy conditions as winds gust between 17 and 23 mph.

Lows will drop to about 44 degrees early Friday before a 20 percent chance of rain in the valley. Forecasters expect the rain to clear out by 11 a.m. Friday, ushering in mostly sunny skies with a high near 64 degrees.

Meanwhile, surrounding mountains could get more snow today and tonight. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the mountains of Southern Nevada thanks to a Pacific storm moving across the region.

The highest temperature recorded on today's date in Las Vegas was 89 degrees, set in 2004. The lowest temperature hit freezing at 32 degrees, set in 1938. The normal high is 71 degrees, according to weather service records.
