LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Governor a master magician when it comes to taxes

The magical Gov. Brian Sandoval wins his “no-tax pledge” that he didn’t sign, and he forces legislators from Clark County to break their “no-tax pledge” — that they did sign — when he uses a sleight-of-hand trick, by moving Clark County School District construction funds through the state cash register to be paid out to the district for administrative purposes, teacher salaries, supplies, etc.

Like any good magician, he has his intelligent and attractive assistant, Heidi Gansert, to provide the distraction while he, the Lance Burton of governors, uses smoke and mirrors to take the money from the School District and give it back in another form.

Voilà. The budget is balanced (give or take $100 million depending upon whom you talk to) and everybody’s happy, except it will cause property taxes in Clark County to be raised to cover money transferred. Nice trick, Governor. You win, and Clark County freshman legislators and property owners lose.
