Al Lasso, in his Sunday letter to the editor — headlined “Who needs a silly lottery anyway?” — was rightfully disappointed. Politicians have their heads in the sand on this issue. The casinos would not suffer an iota from a lottery, yet education would get some much-needed financing.
As a snowbird wintering in Laughlin, I probably spend too much in the casinos. However, once a week I cross the bridge to Arizona to buy lottery tickets. Never has the purchase of a lottery ticket reduced what I spend in a casino. If I win $50,000 in a lottery, the casinos would benefit more.
I’ve been buying lottery tickets for 40 years at home in British Columbia. Too bad I have to buy them in Arizona or California when I’m here.
