Fatal accident

Metro Police said a car struck a pole east of downtown Las Vegas on Tuesday night, killing two people in the vehicle.

Police said the single-vehicle accident occurred at 10:59 p.m. on Oakey Boulevard just west of Fremont Street.

A preliminary police investigation indicated the 1990 Chrysler Fifth Avenue was eastbound on Oakey Boulevard, but it left the roadway as it approached Fremont Street and collided with a pole, authorities said.

The 48-year-old male driver and his female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The passenger's age wasn't immediately known, police said.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will identify the victims pending notification of their families.

The two deaths bring the number of traffic-related fatalities this year in Metro's jurisdiction to 19. The investigation to determine what led to the crash is ongoing.
